Icy platinum has quietly lost ground. In its place, colorists are working with warmer, softer blondes that sit between vanilla and beige. The industry has landed on names like butter blonde and vanilla blonde, and what they have in common is that they are neither harshly cool nor heavily golden. They read as natural, and more importantly for anyone who does not want to live at the salon, they grow out without a hard line at the root.

Copper is having a genuine moment

Coppers, warm auburns and cherry reds have seen a real surge in demand this year, and it is not limited to fall. Salons are reporting significantly more requests for red tones than in previous seasons, and the range is wide enough that it can be tailored to almost any skin tone rather than being one fixed shade.

There is one honest caution with copper. It fades faster than almost anything else. Expect noticeable fading within the first few weeks unless you commit to cooler water, less frequent washing and color-safe products. If you are not going to do that upkeep, we would rather tell you before we mix the color than after.

Brunettes are going glossy

For darker hair, the trend is depth with shine. Rich espresso browns with a glass-like finish, achieved by ending the service with a gloss rather than stopping at the color itself. Without that final step, a very dark brown can read flat.

If you want the look, the thing to ask your colorist for is dark with a gloss finish, not just dark.

What we would tell you in the chair

Trends are a starting point, not a prescription. The color that photographs beautifully on someone else may not suit your skin tone, your hair's condition or how often you can realistically come in.

The most useful thing you can do is bring photos and be honest about your routine. If you wash your hair daily, copper is going to disappoint you. If your hair has been colored several times already, lifting to a bright blonde may need to happen over more than one appointment.

Where the difference actually shows

Trends are easy to find. Execution is not.

The gap between a color that looks expensive and one that looks cheap usually comes down to two things nobody talks about in the trend articles: the quality of the product on the shelf, and whether the colorist tells you the truth.

A skilled stylist working with cheap dye produces a result you can spot immediately. The tone sits wrong, the shine is not there, and it fades within weeks. It is one of the most common complaints we hear from clients arriving from other salons.
