Facials and Waxing in Newark, NJ
The esthetics room at Lush Atelier is a separate, quiet space at the back of the studio on Wilson Avenue, in Newark's Ironbound. Facials, deep cleansing treatments with extractions, custom masks and full-body waxing are all done there by licensed specialists, by appointment, six days a week.
Skin work is slow work. We would rather book you a longer first appointment and actually look at your skin than sell you a series before we know what we are treating.
Facials and deep cleansing
Our deep cleansing facial runs through the whole sequence: a double cleanse, steam to soften the pores, exfoliation, manual extraction of blackheads, whiteheads and the congestion that sits under the surface without ever quite becoming a spot, a mask chosen for your skin on the day, and serum and moisturiser to close. Facial and neck massage is built in, not an upsell — it is where the tension in your jaw goes.
It is the treatment for congested, oily or combination skin, for anyone who has been picking at their own face in the bathroom mirror, and for the fortnight before an event when you want your skin calm rather than newly experimented on. If your skin is dry, sensitive or reactive, we adapt: less steam, gentler exfoliation, no extractions where the skin will not forgive them.
Expect a little redness for a few hours afterwards and none by the next morning. Every four to six weeks keeps most skin steady, which is roughly one full skin cycle. Tell us at booking if you use a retinoid, an acid, or anything prescribed for acne — some of those mean we change the treatment, and one or two mean we wait.
Waxing
We wax the whole body: Brazilian and bikini, underarms, full and half legs, arms, back, chest, lip, chin and eyebrows. Hard wax is used on the sensitive areas because it grips hair rather than skin, which is the difference between a wax you tolerate and one you dread.
Eyebrow waxing is a shaping appointment, not a strip. We map the brow against your face, take out what is genuinely stray, and leave you something that grows back into shape instead of disappearing. If your brows are recovering from years of over-plucking, we will tell you where to stop tweezing and give it a few months.
For the best result, let the hair reach about a quarter of an inch — roughly two to three weeks of growth — and do not shave in between, because shaving resets everything to a blunt, stubborn regrowth. Exfoliate gently a couple of days before, skip the moisturiser or oil that morning, and avoid sun, hot tubs, saunas and the gym for twenty-four hours afterwards.
One important thing to raise at booking: if you use a retinoid, a strong acid, or are on or recently off isotretinoin, waxing can lift skin. Tell us and we will either work around the area or ask you to wait. Come back every three to five weeks and the regrowth gets finer and easier each time.
